The Reckless Poets Band features electric guitar, electric baritone guitar, piano/organ, bass and drums. Inspired by Classic Rock with influences from the Blues, Motown, Jazz, Southern Rock, and Soul- the band performs songs from the 60’s and 70’s as well as danceable originals. You could say we love to play BOTH kinds of music: OLD songs… and NEW songs- Reckless Poets Style.
Each one of the Reckless Poets has a unique background with plenty of musical diversity, yet there are many common threads running through this band. Improvisation is one of the major factors driving us. Connection with the song, the words, and the listener… these desires unify us as well. The Reckless Poets
Glenn MacPherson: Lead & Rhythm Electric Guitar, Vocals
Back in the mid 80’s Glenn played the San Francisco area for 5 yrs. opening for Robin Trower, 38 Special, Molly Hatchet and many others as well as headlining his own shows. In addition to being a rocking lead guitarist, Glenn is an accomplished songwriter. He was a Kerrville New Folk finalist as well as the winner of the Sisters Folk Fest song competition in Oregon. Glenn also took home Song of the Year from Northern California Songwriters Association as well as numerous other songwriting awards. Twelve of Glenn’s songs are in use in various TV shows and radio spots and continue to receive play all over the world. In 1996 Glenn’s debut CD MR FIX IT MAN was released and enjoyed airplay all over the United States. MR FIX IT MAN was on the top ten list from KZSC radio, Santa Cruz CA. Glenn brings his distinctive warm voice and love of ripping lead guitar to the Brave Mystic recipe.
Stephen Bigger: Piano, Organ, Vocals
Stephen is a published singer, songwriter, and music producer. He owns and operates RockArbor Music (ASCAP) Recording in Santa Cruz, CA. With a catalog of original multi-media works in a variety of global genres, he is currently composing musical scores for film and television shows such as American Pickers, Discovery Channel, and Animal Planet. He received an ASCAP Music Award for his song “Shake This World” which appears on several Martin Luther King Jr music CDs. Stephen has been full time in the music industry for over 20 years as a staff producer in Nashville, TN and produced over 1500 songs on music row in his time there receiving several national ADDYs for his commercial music. As a freelance producer he has recorded pop, rock, world music, Americana, folk, and the blues.
Tim Prince: Electric Baritone Guitar
Tim has over 40 years experience in many fields of the music industry. He began his professional musician career at 13 when he and a neighbor kid played Beatle songs for doughnuts at a local coffee shop. Tim has played clarinet, saxophone, guitar and piano in orchestras, jazz, rock bands, and recording sessions. After 10 years of gigging in the south SF bay area and Alaska, Tim played key roles in the development of synthesizer, digital audio sampling and recording technologies at Emu Systems and Universal Audio in Santa Cruz, Ca. In 2005 Tim left his industry work to run his recording studio, Ridgetop Sound, full time. In addition to engineering, Tim has produced and co-produced many projects working extensively with local singer songwriter Keith Greeninger. One of the biggest pleasures in this work was connecting people together to create bands featuring the finest local talent and industry legends. Tim has now come full circle and playing music is job one.
Eric Gunn: Drums
Eric’s ability to play for the song has kept him busy in the Bay Area for a long time. He has played with acts as diverse as Joe Luis Walker, It’s a Beautiful Day and the Nora Cruz Sextet. In addition, Eric has recorded or performed with members of The David Nelson Band, Charmaine Scott, The Trailerpark Troubadours, Terry Hiatt, Ken Arconte, Lil John Chrisly, The Soul Drivers, The Linkhorns, The Substitutes, Rusty Zinn, Paul Durcette, and Mic Overman. Besides his ubiquitous presence as the machine engine Eric worked with the legendary Johnny Craviotto and is still building the finest drum sets available right here in Santa Cruz.
Mark Hull: Bass, Vocals
Mark Hull has been playing in bands since his early teens and continues to enjoy the experience today holding down the bottom end with Eric for the Reckless Poets. His influences come from a wide variety of rock, Americana, and rhythm and blues artists of the past decades. Mark enjoys the space and creative atmosphere that is the center of this current musical adventure. He has played bass in bluegrass, folk, rock, cover, and blues bands over the past 40 years in the Santa Cruz area, but feels that the sonic connection that is made with the Reckless Poets continues to reward, challenge, and inspire the members of the band to keep exploring their limits.
